SIZE OF CONTAINER

The One Logistics will present you the current container types. Containers vary in size, depending on the manufacturer. However, due to the need to standardize for use on a global scale, container size and coding are often applied in accordance with ISO standards.

There are many ISO standards related to containers, in which ISO 668: 1995 specifies the size and the loading of this tool.

According to ISO 668: 1995 (E), ISO containers have a width of 2,838m (8ft).

In terms of length, 40 'containers are standard. Shorter containers have computational lengths that can be folded to fit under a 40 'container and still ensure a 3 inch gap in the middle. For example, two 20 'containers will fit under a 40' container with a gap between 2 20 'containers and 3 inches. For this reason, the 20 'container is only about 20 feet long (exactly 1.5 inches short).

In terms of height, there are mainly two types: normal and high. The container is typically 8 feet 6 inches tall, 9 feet 6 inches tall. How to call containers often, high containers are only customary. In the past, the 8-foot tall was commonly used, but nowadays it is no longer used. Instead, the container usually has a height of 8'6 ".

According to ISO 668: 1995 (E), the standard container size and weight is 20 'and 40' as shown in the table below.

This standard also accepts that in some countries there may be legal restrictions on the height and weight of the container.

For example, in Viet Nam, the Vietnamese standard applied by the Vietnam Register is TCVN 6273: 2003 - "Rules for the manufacture and certification of shipping containers by sea", which stipulates the total loading for containers. 20 'maximum is 20.32 tons (smaller than the international standard mentioned above).

In fact, containerized cargo in Vietnam running on domestic routes often overloads quite a lot. Many shippers can pack over 25 tons for 20 'containers and over 28 tons for 40' containers.
